Vibrant spot in the city for drinks and small plates with Asian-inspired flavors. The restaurant gets fairly dim inside later at night but the ambiance is modern and upscale. Prices are reasonable for location and the smaller plates make it easier to share dishes among your fellow diners. Menu offered various unique dishes and flavors but the overall taste of the food left more to be desired. Service was quick and employees were friendly despite a busy night. Great place for a night out but food does not compare to the top Asian restaurants in the city.

The restaurant is in a prime location for things to do before and after eating. When entering, you’re greeted promptly (expect a wait on dinner services especially on the weekend). The ambience is modern and the place is nicely decorated. We ordered the edamame, steamed bun (egg plant), tofu pad Thai, sweet potato roll. The food is average at best but does come out fairly quickly. The menu has accommodations for various dietary restrictions.Once seated, the jarring music becomes annoying to talk over. Furthermore, the music is that of a club or disco rather than something more tranquil and soothing. To further add to the disturbances, there are usually at least one birthday party on any given weekend.I have been to this places on numerous occasions for years so my experience isn’t a ‘one-off’.Overall, given the area, the price is mainly for the location. I would recommend other places before coming here.

We dined here for our anniversary dinner. Reserved a table online and were seated immediately. Service was great and quick. Some great vegetarian options in the menu. We tried veggie fried rice and it was delicious. I also tried the crispy chicken bao buns and loved it. My husband had a jalapeño based cocktail and was very impressed by it! Only thing we didn’t like was that the music playing was very loud. Other than that, it was a great meal!

Phenomenal, high-end dining experience in the heart of the Windy City. Each course became progressively more flavorful and unique as the night progressed. Additionally, the menu offered variety that was equally fitting to everyone’s dietary restrictions ( vegetarian, dairy free etc..) without compromising the taste. Will definitely be returning on my next trip to Chicago! My personal favorite was the Poke Bowl, the Brussels sprout salad and the Dragon sushi. The sorbet and mochi at the end were also equally delicious!

Been here for dinner once and food was good, but it was noisy. Came back to try brunch and was very shocked at how good it was. Favorite dish pictured was the tempura french toast. Had a fun crispness. The Ube waffles is not crunchy and not too sweet (for those who might think Ube too sweet), but the chicken was amazing!!

Another not my first time here, but first Google Review for this place! 5-stars pre-COVID days and 3.5-stars for this most recent experience for Sunday Brunch around 2pm. Service right off the bat was lacking, unfortunately. We waited around a good 15-min before we asked the front door host to have a server stop by our table. The Manager came right away and apologized, noting they were short-staffed and had some call-ins. Not that we wanted to hear that, but our menu selections kind of made up for it. Pictured here are their Lumpia; Sumo Mary (gigantic Bloody Mary at $38 dressed with a ton of food) which I highly recommend as a meal option and order with a side of Garlic Rice; All Silog Plate (they call it Island Breakfast Plate) (Longanisa, Tocino, Bacon, Egg, Atchara, Garlic Rice); Steak and Eggs; and of course their Halo-Halo (they call it Sundae Sundae). After coming here many times pre-COVID, I hope this place decides to beef up their service and continues to stick around.

I gave this rating because I did not like the presentation of my sushi, it was a mess, wasn't tightly rolled, falling apart while I was trying to eat it. The crispy brussel sprouts salad was good, they definitely added more ingredients to this salad (was here years ago and had a different version of it). The ambience of this place is beautiful.

Amazing food. Went for brunch early on a Sunday and were seated immediately. Every item we ordered was delicious. We got the ube waffles (fresh, crispy, and the ube butter is to die for!), eggplant bao (a good balance of savory and sweet with plenty of crunch), the sweet potato roll (soft, sweet potato center topped topped with avocado), and the tocino grilled cheese (the tocino reminded me of my childhood! Using pimento cheese was a brilliant contrast to the sweet tocino meat). We then finished the meal with the Sunda sundae, which is essentially the filipino dessert halo halo. I love how generous they were with the ube ice cream on our sundae. The service was also good. Our server was polite and easily available. The restaurant was beautiful and quite fancy on the insideI am so happy with our meal and the wide Asian, especially filipino, representation on the menu. I cannot wait to come back again in the future!

A modern looking Asian fusion restaurant with really good food. The noise level was incredibly loud and the prices were a tad expensive, but I review food and this place gets 5 stars for the food.FoodI have been craving good asian food during my visit to Chicago and so I wanted to try Sunda's take on chicken pad thai. And they satisfied my cravings. The noodles were well cooked and the sauce was just right. Topped off with a good amount of bean sprouts it really added a refreshing crisp bite with the noodles.Lemongrass beef lollipops was probably my favorite dish of the whole night. I have not had beef lollipops before but this just set the standard. I loved being able to take a bite and just getting a mouthful of juicy meat. I was worried about too much lemongrass flavor since it's on a stalk of lemongrass but that was not a problem.Chicken inasal was also great. The chicken was not dry at all and was incredibly juicy. The salad mix has a nice dressing on it and really compliments the chicken and dish overall.AtmosphereI was seated along the edge of the restaurant right by the window and it was still way too loud. I could barely hear my friend in front of me. Otherwise, the interior is nice and dark and definitely had a modern look to it. I wouldn't bring a date here though since I wouldn't be able to hold a good conversation.PricingA little bit on the more expensive side but it is Asian fusion food so pretty standard pricing. This place will be much more expensive than your typical Asian restaurant that might do just regular Thai food or sushi rolls.ServiceService was overall good. The food came out quickly and the server was friendly but brief.OtherThere is just no parking in the area so I had to walk here. I would recommend making a reservation to avoid having to wait for a long time!

The food was good. But the service was sorely lacking. It wasn’t even that busy and there were lots of empty tables that night. Im positive that our table was being overlooked in favor of the tables where drinks were being ordered. It’s too bad because we were going to order more food, but our waitress never showed up again after serving us except to take our dessert order much later. Sadly we won’t return.

Eh, could have been better. The food tasted great. Can't complain. The service, though, wasn't so great. We were seated and about 10mins went by and not a single person had come to our table. We were then advised they had some call offs, probably to go to lollapalooza. Regardless, we waited a long time for everything. Each of our dishes came out separately so it was awkward eating while the rest of the table was still waiting on their brunch. But, I'm sure this was a one off judging off the ratings from others.

Came for a restaurant week experience. Our waitress (Dena) was sweet and prompt. We ordered one of their special rolls for the season (Sunshine maki which featured lobster, salmon topped with tobiko) and ordered off their restaurant week menu. The specialty drinks looked really good but we didn’t end up ordering one.Appetizer were oxtail dumplings and crispy Brussels. Both were good but the nuoc cham vinaigrette in the Brussels really made it shine and the fried shallots added a nice crunch.Next was jalpeno hamachi in ponzu sauce and the “tail of two tuna.” (No imagination required for what these two dishes were like.) And the main entrees were the hainanese salmon and chicken inasal. Sadly, the chicken was a little dry but the salmon was delicious. It was topped with a ginger scallion oil, sitting on top of a toasted garlic soy sauce. Very flavorful - would definitely get again. And to finish it off was the coconut cream cheesecake topped with fruit and toasted coconut flakes. The dessert was tasty but the cheesecake definitely had been thawing for a few hours since the texture was more soft and at room temperature. The ambience was nice, but it was very loud and the tables felt very close and somewhat crowded. Overall, the food was still pretty tasty. There were many items on their main menu that I’d like to go back and try. But maybe during a time when it isn’t so crowded.

Met a guy name Albin when my man and I were out and about (visiting from minnesota) and referred us to this restaurant he works at.We arrived at 4:00pm when they opened. We sat at the sushi bar. Bree our server was a total sweet heart. Albin made us amazing drinks based on ideas we gave him. My man got a jalapeño infused version of a Gin Tom collins. He made me a lychee tini, both were incredible. We ordered the Lobster Wagu, Escolar, and Hamachi Jalapeño. Very fresh and flavorful. Juan, Orlando, Javi we’re the sushi chefs. Very friendly and good conversation.(also they recommended other places to do in the area) Ceaser the GM introduced himself and asked our opinion. He then gave us a incredible desert called the Ridiculous. It was very fitting name. Must try! We were super impressed by the service, quality and cleanliness of the establishment. First off, the ambiance is great. Decor is very nice and the atmosphere is great for a fun night out with friends. I ordered the Red dragon sushi roll and it was delicious. My friend ordered the szechuan chicken but said they didn't like it much. The garlic noodles werent bad, could use a bit more seasoning and less cook time. We also ordered the spicy edamamae and it was probably the best edamame I've ever had. It is seasoned very well and tossed with garlic and butter and isn't your typical stesmed edamame you tend to find at restaurants. The shishito peppers were a little overdone for my liking. I ordered the strawberry fields (virgin) and it was underwhelming, not much strawberry flavor and too tart for my liking. The dish that took the night was the Ridiculous. It's a heap of vanilla ice cream with a crumb layer of carrot/ginger cake and then coated with caramel walnut sauce. That dessert was DIVINE and if for nothing else, I'll be returning for that dessert alone. The textures worked in harmony and the caramel sauce buffered with the thin layer of cake was the perfect complement to the ice cream.Overall I had a great time and would return again.

The food was just fine, nothing to write home about. There are plenty of better Asian restaurants to choose from in this city. My biggest complaint was, and yes this is petty, but I ordered a $19 glass of red wine and it was served in a very thick rimmed white wine glass, a glass you would expect wine at the Hampton Inn bar to use. Honestly, it's not a deal breaker, but makes me question the quality of this restaurant given its price point.

It was right by the restrooms, having off by the bar. There was barely any light & it was DIRTY. There were plenty other tables available, so we asked to be sat elsewhere, to which they told us all reservations had the tables. However they finally moved us, & the entire time the tables around us weren’t even occupied so obviously that a lie. Do better, Sunda. Empty plates were never empty more than a few minutes, drinks were always topped off without asking. Food was new Asian, so don’t expect traditional Asian food that you’re familiar, all were kinda a new take on the classics from all over Southeast Asia. All of the food items we received were excellent, tasty and great quality. The food items were meant to be served in a family shareable setup. All in all awesome place to be. My only complaint is how noisy the place was. The place was full, but I think just simply adding a few absorptive acoustical panels or fabric will make a huge difference. It was so hard to hear the person talking across the table from me and I had to scream and yell to be heard. I’m sure everyone was doing the same thing making it even louder in the restaurant. Love this place. Food is super delicious and it's always a joy to go here. Our waitress was super sweet and suggested great rolls and other dishes. Look forward to coming back soon. Kinda of expensive but the food is quality, so you get what you pay for.

The atmosphere is always energetic and lively. It tends to be crowded for dinner and can get a little loud in there, make sure you get a reservation. I always take people visiting from out of town to this place and they love it. It’s a good place for groups, the menu has something for everyone and the food is shareable. They also have vegan/vegetarian and gluten-free menus with great selections. Service is always impeccable, irrespective of how busy the place is.You can’t really go wrong with the food here. My favorites are the manchurian cauliflower, shrimp tempura, crazy rice, chicken inasal, the salmon, the curry (it comes in a coconut). I like their sushi too, there are some interesting options. The place is pricey but worth it.

Great place for food, e.g., brunch, lunch or dinner; AND a pretty good happy hour! I personally think the service is good when yu have it, this place can get pretty busy during happy hour and the dinner rush. We ordered the Shrimp tempura, brussel sprouts salad, crazy rice and a few drinks. I personally wouldn't recommend the shrimp tempura it's prepared more like Honey walnut shrimp and if not expecting that, it's hard to eat. At least for me bc I was caught off guard. But the Brussels sprouts salad and crazy rice (spicy) are THE best menu items that I have tried thus far. Which I highly recommend both. What is also worth mentioning is the cocktail menu. I personally don't like what they have to offer. I found myself trying to think about what I wanted to drink that wasn't on the list. I tried Lady & the champ, hot sake and the sparkling sake cocktail. They are all 'good' but nothing noteworthy whereas I would specifically come to Sunda for their drinks. With that being said, when yu think of Sunda, think of food. :p

Their Weekend Brunch selections are fantastic!!! Super loved my order of the Longanisa with fried rice, egg and achara, while my friend enjoyed her Tocino with salad and egg benedict.

Food was average for me, I thought the steam buns were stuffed and steamed but it was sliced and used like hamburger buns. Sushi was average. bathrooms are all the way downstairs like in San Francisco. Miso soup was ok. Decor was nice but I did not enjoy the DJ music.

Well, what can I say! Everyone seems to have a good word to say about this Asian fusion restaurant. From our order the Tina sushi, the pork boa (buns) and dynamite shrimps were very good. We'd also ordered the Dan Dan noodles, those were not authentic though tasty. I'd not say that this was great authentic food, but this place scores very high on ambience, vibes and passionate staff. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable dinner! I'd go back but order carefully.

Good spot with good service. I went in late around 9:30 pm and it was still buzzing, understandably so. The food was pretty good. I had the crazy rice which was flavorful with crunchy onion on top. They did take a while with my order so to compensate they gave me crispy rice as well - sticky rice sushi topped with beef or salmon. It was delicious and I recommend that as a shared starter.

Five stars alone for the coconut cheesecake (creamy, amazing, and perfect portion) and the vegan dim sum. We loved trying the different items from their vegan menu. We didn’t love the sushi (sweet potato, rice, AND avocado was just too heavy) nor the vegan miso cauliflower. However, the edamame, Manchurian cauliflower, dumplings, and cheesecake were absolutely delectable. The space is very trendy, and the service very friendly and attentive. We will be returning for the dumplings and cheesecake!

Well seasoned food little pricey asked to move our table our next server never filled our dipping sauce when we did get our food the butter seamed a bit stale but the worst was my over easy eggs where over cooked they almost couldnt be cut with a fork. staff was very friendly and nice decor. also our table rocked back and forth very disapointing considering the level of restaurant. The food is Americanized phillapino food so dont be sad if the taste is a bit off.

Though the atmosphere here really is nice, the food really didn't match my expectations. The tiger shrimp tempura was crispy and creamy but lacked spice. The bibimbap and pancit canton were both tasty but too simple to justify the price. If you're seeking out equally good pan-Asian food for half the price, I'd suggest going only a few miles south to Chinatown or north to Argyle.

Best Asian food in downtown Chicago. Ambience is very good, staff is very friendly and food is amazing. They nailed every dish I had, whether it's pot stickers or signature sushi roll or noodles. Even the dessert is pretty good. Their plum sake is one of the best. Oxtail potstickers, wagyu with crispy rice and spicy shrimp roll are my favorites.

Fave dishes pictured: Baked snow crab Handroll and lemongrass beef lollipops! I loved the warmth of the Handroll and the sauce for the lollies was great. We had a bunch of apps so also enjoyed the oxtail potstickes. I did not care for the seoul wings- the wing sauce was fine but the toughness of the chicken was too tough for me. By the time we received the steamed buns, I may have been too full, but I also felt that meat was chewy (we had the fried chicken and pork).... my kids loved the pork fried rice. There ared high chairs and kids drinks with lids available. The atmosphere was fun and lively! I will return.

Sunda offers a separate vegetarian/vegan menu featuring many veganized versions of items on the omni menu as well as several vegan rolls. We ordered the vegan street corn, brussel sprouts salad, cauliflower steak, and sweet potato roll. All very good. Sunda is always packed and has a great vibe, but as a result it's very loud.

Nick Maggio: What an experience!A group of 12 of us came for some great food to celebrate for a bachelor party. We were quickly seated and treated to a feast to remember--designed, served, and executed by the masterful and benevolent Nick Maggio. This gentleman observed that our party wanted to enjoy a good variety of Sunda's finest, while not neglecting to have sake and other appropriate spirits.Nick suggested that he let him order for us. We convened and agreed--and boy did he exceed any possible expectation we could have had. After acknowledging any notable preferences and/or allergies, he promptly put in order after order of wonderful dishes (which you can see in my added pictures). These were not entirely exorbitant nor on the minimal-side, but rather we received a balanced experience of Sunda's rich offerings. The sushi and sushimi was spectacular, the sake was not marginal, and our time was filled with plate after plate of great service. I could not more highly recommend this place. If you are so fortunate to try it out, ask for Mr. Maggio!
