I ordered the following:Chips and QuesoShort ribs TacoCrab TacoFish TacoGrilled mushrooms and squashVegetable EnchiladasCaramel FlanThe food is good, the ambience is even better.Expect long wait times during rush hours especially weekends. The tacos are worth to try! They are the best on menu. The caramel is really good. It's rich in flavor and delightful.

Review №2

I'm not used to being charged for chips at a Mexican restaurant so that was disappointing. I think my food would have been okay but it was way too salty and my $11 margarita had almost zero tequila. On the positive side, it's a lovely setting with very nice staff.

Review №3

What a fantastic experience. Acenar restaurant bar has a very delicious food. My first time and it was delicious. I got the fried oysters for appetizer then my dinner was cochinita pibil and if you like spicy sauce ask for the jalapeño sauce. Definitely will be back here when I am visiting San Antonio.

Review №4

We were lucky enough to find Acenar by accident. It was 8:35pm and we were hungry and tired. Acenar just happened to be the restaurant where we came out on the river walk. Everything was so delicious. We're from Houston so we have a lot of great Mexican and TexMex food every week. But Acenar was exceptional. The cilantro rice really stood out. The chocolate mousse was divine!

Review №5

Came here with my boyfriend for the first time and the food was amazing and they had great service. Everything was clean, and the employees were really nice.

Review №6

The food was DELICIOUS and affordable-a big plus. Our waitress was SUPER sweet and attentive, she constantly checked on us without being excessive. The restaurant was clean and followed the Covid guidelines for social distancing. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you're visiting San Antonio.

I sat at the bar and ordered a beer when I was waiting for my table. My girlfriend sat next to me and waited for the bartender to approach. The bartender made eye contact with us multiple times and instead went to the POS for a few moments, walked to the back, came back 2 minutes later, and stood there with his arms crossed looking around. She finally called him over and was taken care of.We sat down to eat with our drinks and when the server noticed our drinks, he said “I see you've already gotten started” and walked away. He came back and asked us what we'd like to order. When she ordered shrimp tacos he asked her is she'd like to make them spicy, and she said yes. When the food was brought out it was a completely different plate. When we looked for the plate on the menu he had upsold us from a $15 to a $30 plate, that was not the tacos we had discussed before. We weren't check on very often, the manager was off talking and sitting with just one table, and I could honestly say I wouldn't give this place another chance.

Review №8

Mexican food, yeah, very delicious. I like it here, great food & service. Definitely worth a return visit. Prices that won't break you.

Review №9

Excellent location for delicious Mexican food. Super place to meet and chat with coworkers. Service is typically above par. The place has a cool feel to it. Menu is like a place in San Francisco I liked.

Review №10

Fantastic lunch. We had the appetizer sampler and the fish tacos. Nice riverwalk facing patio.

Review №11

Outstanding scene for tasty mexican food. Nice place to think about business. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The place has a cool feel to it. Feels similar to a cafe in Chicago I loved.

Review №12

Good food and service was really good. The appetizer tacos that have shrimp in them are an absolute MUST! They are super flavorful and you may even end up buying another round because they are that good! The tacos are really good but nothing to go head over heels about. Chips and salsa are probably one of the better chips and salsa I had in San Antonio! Overall a great experience and would come here again!

Review №13

A top site for delicious mexican food. i often meet people here to talk. there was quick, helpful, and friendly service. prices are decent. i can see why they have so many reviews.

Review №14

Thank you to Keith for helping me setup our last minute reservation. AND the entire Acenar team for making our Cano Health dinner a success! The entire team was fast, efficient and welcoming! True San Antonio Hospitality at its finest!

Review №15

This place had great food but the SERVICE WAS SO HORRIBLE. Went for our 8 year anniversary thinking we'd try something new and gosh do I wish we would've went somewhere else. Our server was HORRIBLE his name was Ryon. He greeted us and seemed unhappy, didn't ask if we were celebrating anything, wasn't very personable AT ALL. He seemed like a robot. I asked for a well tequila shot and our server said “Sweetie our well tequila isn't” And I said “that's fine I still want it and 2 waters please.” My fiancé asked for a hand shaken margarita. After 5 minutes of just waiting for waters our server came back, dropped off our waters and asked if we were ready to order. We placed our order, he brought our alcoholic drinks and right away my fiancé didn't like the hand shaken margarita, he said it taste like too much sweet and sour. We eventually told our server after our food came out (that someone else dropped off), and he never checked on us and asked how the food was (even though we were enjoying it). And when we told him about the margarita he said “well it's hand shaken sir so it's gonna taste like that” instead of just saying “no problem, can I get you something else?” The most HORRIBLE SERVER I have ever had. If you don't like your job then stop working there or stop being a server PERIOD!!! We asked another server because we couldn't find ours if we could speak to a manager. The manager came out, his name was Juan (nice guy) but he just apologized for the server and just said that the server was probably like that because it was Halloween and that the server probably just wanted to get out of there. Which is not an excuse because I was prepared to tip high just because it was Halloween. I asked the manager “well maybe he's tired, is he working a double?” And the manager said “no, he's not working a double, he probably just wants to leave already.” So out of all the restaurants I could've chosen to go to downtown, I chose Acenar for our anniversary because we had never been, thinking we were going to get great customer service, a personable server/experience but instead it was just a really HORRIBLE experience, specially for our anniversary. Please don't come here. There's no accountability as it seemed. Go to any other restaurant downtown but this one. Specially if you're celebrating something special.

Review №16

Great spot for delicious Mexican food. Visited on a Wednesday I think. The bill was reasonable I would say. Feels similar to a restaurant in New York I liked.

Review №17

Wonder. The fish tacos were great and the service was top notch. Highly recommend.

Review №18

My top place for mexican food. Everyone at our table was glad to be there. Had a friend come into town and she asked me to take her here again. I can see why they have a lot of good reviews.

Review №19

Excellent location for tasty mexican food. Will surely make a return trip. The place has an awesome feel to it.

Review №20

One of my fav locations for mexican food. Visited Fri evening I think. It has a great atmosphere. I see why this place has a lot of positive reviews.

Review №21

Good place for delicious mexican food. i give this place two thumbs up. the service was sociable and attentive. it has a great interior.

Review №22

The service here was great! I can't even. They all were super accommodating and based off service alone I would return and bring friends. The food was a cherry on the top. It was all great Thank You Guys!

Review №23

Excellent spot for tasty Mexican food. This location is absolutely outstanding. The service was friendly and sociable. Prices were appropriate.

Review №24

We had Gary as a server. He could not have been a nicer guy. Really enjoyed our conversation and he had some great recommendations on what to do in San Antonio. The food was great as well. Highly recommend going to Acenar.

Review №25

Great nachos and queso. Great patio and service. Roasted salsa not my favorite...

Review №26

Anthony did the best job. I don't know that I've ever seen a better waiter. Food was exceptional, loved the refried beans and chalupas

Review №27

Food is exelent. Would highly recommend the oyster tacos. The price is a little high but it is worth it.

Review №28

One of my preferred spots for quality mexican food. Got there near six, it wasn't packed at all. The staff was sociable and attentive. Bring your hunger - portions are large. Ambience is similar to Fresno's scene.

Review №29

Mexican food and the feeling here is super good. A favorite evening place of mine. Service is typically great. The bill was average for the menu. I can see why they have so many reviews.

Review №30

I only gave 1 star because you can't give 0. The waiter/host that we interacted with was extremely rude and lacking on the interpersonal communication skills preferred in the food setting. As a tourist I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. I'd only mention this place to advice against visiting. Unfortunately my party did not get a chance to try the food thanks to MR. RUDE PANTS.

Review №31

Great food and quick service. Got the oyster tacos (highly recommend) and ceviche. My margarita hit the spot on a hot San Antonio day. Can't wait to try other menu items. Will definitely be coming back again.

Review №32

This place has a really fun environment. We went here for a birthday dinner with friends and enjoyed it. The food came out pretty fast, and the chips and salsa were good. If you plan to order a drink, the margaritas are pricey($11-$12). They also don't do anything special for birthdays unless you pay for dessert, which was a bummer. Overall, decent restaurant on the Riverwalk.

Review №33

It was good. No complaints but make sure you make a reservation because the wait time can be crazy

Review №34

Great place for quality Mexican food. Next time I'll be back with my coworkers. It has a nice interior.

Review №35

Such a nice place with great food

Review №36

The fajitas had good flavor and the margarita was good. However, I requested extra peppers for my fajita, because I noticed lately at restaurants people really skimp you n peppers for some reason. My food came out and I literally had 1 and a half pieces of green pepper. I said something to the waiter, so they brought out a few more pieces. Was is with the gipping of peppers? Restaurants always use green peppers, They're not even expensive. What is a fajita if you dont have peppers?!

Review №37

The service is great. Went during the summer time on a Friday afternoon. The food was okay. Happy hour only happens at the bar. They do not have quesadillas on their menu, which that's what I was looking for at a Mexican restaurant.

Review №38

The Camarones a la Diabla were on point. Carnitas were crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside, like they are supposed to be cooked! The Paloma and chamoy margarita were also perfect. The churritos and cajeta....amazing!

Review №39

My fav location for quality Mexican food. Looking forward to returning with my relatives.

Review №40

Our waiter Anthony was So Awesome. He was helpful, kind and absolutely made the experience a Great one.

Review №41

My fav spot for tasty Mexican food. Nice place to think about business. Service treated us so kindly. The place has a nice atmosphere.

Review №42

I just want say the food was GOOD! The atmosphere was nice. Service was a little slow/disorganized. But I will DEFINITELY go back! Thank you!

Review №43

Great food. The terrace was really nice. Wait staff was really nice

Review №44

Mexican food and the scene here is quality. Got there about two, it was not packed. Fast, efficient, and courteous service.

Review №45

Nice little restaurant on the riverwalk. Food and service is great just a little pricey.

Review №46

The chicken was not that good. The cheese tasted burned. The rice was decent. I would have had better food at a fast food place. This was the chipotle chicken dish.

Review №47

Outstanding scene for tasty mexican food. super tasty. looking forward to returning with my coworkers.

Review №48

Fantastic food! Great service. Charming. Friendly. I chatted with the nice bartender Ray and a few patrons at the bar. I had a delicious margarita on the rocks. My meal was heavenly and was a platter of vegetarian enchiladas in a yummy sauce. It included a bowl of beans and rice on the platter. Nice decor. Comfortable seatings and lovely atmosphere. Right at Houston Street and the relaxing River walk. Fabulous. I liked my food so much. Much better than ordinary Mexican! Salsa and chips were extraordinary.

Review №49

Dining on a river barge was never on my bucket list. But this gem of a restaurant with excellent service caters to the tourist by giving you a historical sight seeing tour of 6 miles of the San Antonio river. Our barge captain and server were amazing! Oh and the food is great too!

Review №50

Delicious Mexican food! The jicama tacos were fantastic! Sit outside by the river for a magical night!

Review №51

Food was good, tacos were good and non-greasy, portions are big, but not huge. For me the downside was the margarita..not great...service was quick and very friendly

Review №52

Have eaten here before and have always had a good experience, especially enjoy the atmosphere. The dark salsa and chips set the table for a great dining experience. The wait staff is always attentive and courteous ( well trained). Tonight I tried the beef shortrib tacos. So much flavor they were unreal. Definitely recommend them to anyone.

Review №53

Great Restaurant with super friendly servers. The location is right on the riverwalk with both outside and indoor dining. The margaritas are wonderful and the food is delicious. Definitely a place you will want to stop in for dinner!

Review №54

Food was over priced and they gave us rotten avacado, but server was good.

Review №55

Great service and great food!! My husband and I traveled from Houston and we will definitely be back!

Review №56

My wife and I were here on a vacation from WI. We loved this place. The drinks were well-mixed and the short-rib tacos had such depth of flavor. It's also off the tourist-laden horseshoe of the river. Highly-recommended!

Review №57

Good Tex Mex style restaurant, popular among the area. Service is good, waiters are attentive. Food comes relatively fast as well. The chips are delicious. Snapper is slightly too salty to be enjoyed. Good for large groups. They have a bar in the front as well

Review №58

Very interesting food and drink! Very well seasoned and the color of the food are crazily beautiful! I have been here a few times, never was disappointed!

Review №59

Great service yummy beef tacos so fillingDefinitely going back want to try Pineapple Flan.

Review №60

Very good food but a little over priced. For example, $18 for 3 small tacos with rice and beans. To be fair, the tacos were beef rib meet. The rest of the menu was in line with other Riverwalk restaurants.

Review №61

We really enjoyed our visits here, the food was pretty good for Riverwalk fare. We had the green enchiladas and the fish tacos, we enjoyed it. The chocolate cake was nice. I had the tuna margarita on the rocks, it was good. The service was good here, though on our second visit on a Saturday, we should have gotten a reservation, we ended up eating at the bar, which was ok. But if you are coming in on the weekend or the evening, call ahead and see if you need a reservation, it gets busy.

Review №62

Service and food quality is great here!

Review №63

One of the best patio views on the Riverwalk with vegan options and live music.

Review №64

Food came quick but my taco plane need it an extra one because it look like a kids plate.

Review №65

Very strong, yet delicious margaritas. Recommend the guacamole.

Review №66

The enchiladas were good, the chicken wifey had was overcooked. We were the only ones in there on a sunday afternoon. Food was overpriced but the staff was friendly.

Review №67

Awesome Patio overlooking the river walk... best tacos...

Review №68

This is a must stop while in San Antonio. It's super cool inside. To us it had a seventy feel/vibe. Then the food down right delicious. I highly recommend the short rib tacos and get the fresh guacamole.

Review №69

Ceviche was way to big. Typically I wouldn't complain, but it was ridiculous. Good server. Decent environment. Good guacamole.

Review №70

We are from Lake Charles, Louisiana. We loved the food, it was delicious!!! And the service was great!!!

Review №71

The location can't be beat if you are in one of the local hotels. Nice outside space, ok inside space. I strongly suggest eating outside. I was jealous of the attention the outside guest seemed to be getting. The food is maybe 3 stars at best. It was oily. Even the avocado seemed to have a glaze of oil. I felt the need for a shower after eating. The food quickly arrived once ordered.I am hesitant to mention the service. Because everyone outside seemed to be getting excellent service and were laughing and having a good time. My waiter seemed sullen, he did the bare minimal. Saw him 3 times I think. Once to order, once to refill a drink, once to ask for the check. Long haired guy. Some female waiter seemed to take pity on us and refilled our drinks as she was passing.Anyway, maybe I am being hyper critical with the food eating because the waiter kinda ruined it for me.If I was a betting man, I would say your experience would be better than mine. The prices didn't seem bad.

Review №72

Came in on a Saturday night. Place was busy! So I would think that this is a great place to eat. I was dead wrong. Once I was seated we asked for silverware and the server responded by saying the whole restaurant was out of silverware and he was waiting for a new set to be cleaned. After "table side guacamole" that was brought to us in a bowl we finally had silverware. They came cold so they definitely were not from the dishwasher. We also had to request for plates for our appetizer. We ordered several dishes and ate family style. The table next to us also order several plates. Both tables ordered 2 similar dishes. The food runners didn't want to serve the table. The server yelled at him saying do it because he didn't have time to. The food runner gave the wrong table two dishes. Turns out it was ours. So half of our table got our food and the other half had to wait. The manager / server / food runner had a meeting behind us and were basically finger pointing at each other. This place is not run properly and it is definitely shown here. I typically don't like to write poor reviews but I had to here. This also isn't everything that went wrong on this night, I just wrote the major ones. This was not how I wanted to celebrate my sister graduating from graduate school.

Review №73

Wow. What a surprise gem. It doesn't look like much, but the Texmex food is fantastic! We had the "Un Poquito de Todo" fajita dish for 2, which had every kind of meat they offer. The meats were prepared perfectly, including the pork (which alot of places overcook). The waiter was super friendly, and our drink orders were correct. Drink refills were quick, too.It has indoor and outdoor areas. It also had a big bar area inside, too, so it's probably a fun party bar at night. I liked the place and will definitely be back next time I'm in SA.

Review №74

I love this place. Delicious food and great service! I ordered the guacamole, which is made table side and I ordered the Oyster tacos. The Oyster tacos were ! Everything was on point, from the way they were cooked, prepped, and the sauce! I highly recommend giving them a try. We sat outside by the river, and added a great setting. If you can handle the humidity, that is. I did manage to get a complementary pearl with my tacos (pictured)

Review №75

Eva was a great server. She answer our questions & even suggested places to go out to. The food was delicious and drinks better. If you come here ask for Eva, she will go above and beyond to make you feel welcome.

Review №76

It was good prices decent waitstaff great

Review №77

The food was beautiful and drinks excellent. Such a great vibe and really clean look. Service was awesome!

Review №78

Amazing service! Food was delicious and was delivered in timely fashion even though the place was packed! Bert made the evening perfect and was very helpful with it being my first visit.

Review №79

Went on a whim on a Saturday night! Rib Tacos & Fish Tacos were to die for and a classic margarita which was absolutely perfect made for a great meal! Bit of warning, try not to get an outdoor table on the outer portion over the river. We felt forgotten by our server for the last thirty minutes of our meal due to him not being able to properly see us.

Review №80

False advertising sign at front door says it opens at 11am. It's 11:13 am 9/14/19 the place is still closed I asked the worker that was outside placing the tables on the patio area if the restaurant was going to be open and he said yes but basically it doesn't open until I finish putting up these tables and setting up the food so basically it's when he wants not what the sign says so just so that is an FYI for all of you that are hungry... I mean it's a nice little area as you can see it's also next to the Riverwalk but I'm very disappointed with your customer service!

Review №81

This most recent visit I ate dinner outside with colleagues. The ambience was great - they had space heaters and a pleasant view of the Riverwalk. I had a slow cooked pork dish with tortillas, cilantro rice and black beans. The pork was good and the tortillas were fresh and warm!

Review №82

Food was really good! Our waiter was the only disappointing part of our visit. He forgot some of our drinks and rarely returned to our table. A different waiter finally brought us our ticket. I was a waiter in college so I'm usually very forgiving when it comes to judging the staff performance but this was the first time in a long time I had to really think about whether or not I wanted to leave less than a 20% tip.

Review №83

It's good food and nice ambient. It has nice patio if to want the river view. Food was tasty and size was little small for some dishes otherwise it was good. Our server however was little too chatty and sometimes it was annoying but he was a nice guy.

Review №84

Modern Mexican restaurant in a great location along the river. Food was made with fresh ingredients; the guacamole was made in front of the table!

Review №85

Good food, nice atmosphere. On the riverwalk.

Review №86

The the food was delicious and great service

Review №87

Aaron was an excellent server and made great suggestions, I definitely recommend dining in with his service! Very professional and respectful. I'll be coming back to see him next time I'm in San Antonio. The food was great and the atmosphere is wonderful. I recommend the enchiladas.

Review №88

My wife and I visited Acenar twice during our latest trip to San Antonio. Our first visit was wonderful, and our server, Gary, was absolutely great! He made the best guacamole at our table, and kept us to speed on the latest goings on in the city. We had the Duck Chalupas and Duck Crepes, and they blew us away....absolutely the finest meal we had in San Antonio!!Our second visit was our last night before flying out, and our server Marissa was absolutely delightful! The place was packed on a Tuesday night, and I highly recommend making a reservation as this is one of the most popular restaurants on the Riverwalk! Marissa was able to seat us and the Acenar Hand Shaken margaritas were wonderful!! We an Appetizer Sampler Platter , and then we had dessert. It was a wonderful way to say goodbye to the Riverwalk in style, and we look forward to our next visit!

Review №89

Ginger Gold Rush all day long!

Review №90

Date night! The Verde pasta was delicious and I had plenty left over to take home. Tableside guacamole and strong margaritas made the experience even better! Liza was spectacular. Thank you!

Review №91

The drink say “house made ginger beer” but our drinks were made with store bought ginger beer. The bartender was sloppy, unorganized and acted as if he couldn't handle 4 customers at the bar. Oh and the hosts didn't even greet us when we came in. We stood there as they passed us by twice. We had to get their attention by greeting them!

Review №92

Atmosphere was was terrific, singing Mariachi band to boot. Verde pasta was amazing, but $6 for 4 shrimp was a bit much. Was staff was lacking. We asked for no onions on our plate and Pico was over half the enchilada dinner and could not be eaten, and the waiter did not seem concerned or offer to fix when we complained.

Review №93

It came highly recommended and am I sure glad it did! I got the crab tacos. The food was excellent, so was the location. Would definitely go there again!

Review №94

Enjoyed the atmosphere and the food . Service is slower then expected .

Review №95

Had the cerviche to start. It was refreshing and the jicama was a nice touch. However, It was too sour for me and hard to finish. The chile relleno was odd. The fried bread on the outside was unexpected. I've also had weird relleno in Colorado too, so don't know what to expect anymore. Service was top- notch. If I had more time in town, I'd want to come back to try something different.

Review №96

Best margarita I ever had (blood orange). Service was great. Food is innovative and well prepared. However, when we asked for more chips, we were told that there would be a four dollar charge. For chips. They lost my respect and more business from us since we were going to order more drinks and hang out for a bit. Four dollars for chips really puts a bad taste in your mouth.

Review №97

This was a nice suprise. We stopped in here on new years eve after a long day at sea world. The food was delicious and the margaritas were very good. The decor is very neat. This would be a great place for a date night. We did have our kid with us and they enjoyed too. They got chicken strips. I orders short rib tacos very yummy.

Review №98

Place with nice ambiance but not good food. I go because my husband likes it. Only thing really good is the salsa they bring with chips. Other than that, nah.

Review №99

Great venue for a private event. Was there with a large group and set menu taco bar so no sure what all the other dishes are like but the tacos were really good. Staff is very friendly and helpful

Review №100

Food was excellent! Had the nachos and seafood enchiladas with house rita. You can't go wrong with these. I eat lots of Tex-Mex and the black beans were perfectly done. Taking one star back due to a few opportunities with the setup of the restaurant. From upstairs not clear where to get a table. Most traffic might come from the Riverwalk but not all and it's a real front door and the bar entrance. Wait time was long for a Monday and underestimated. Staff needs to acknowledge guests waiting for hostess to return or 2 hostesses are needed. The wait staff is working hard but might be stretched thinner than appropriate. That said we had great servers and I'm not taking a star based on their hustle and understanding what's not in their control. Would come back and will recommend overall!
