Early lunch at 11 am. They are open for dine in so that's good. Ordered korma chicken in mild and vegetable samosas.Service was very fast . Do not like that they ask you to add a tip when you order, before you have tasted the food or experienced the service . I did leave a tip on the table but did not like looking cheap by being pressured to add a tip when you place your order.Plastic plates, silverware, and napkins. Instrumental Indian drum music playing overhead. The dip with the samosas was very good. As was the korma. I could have gone up one spice level but who knew? The basmati rice did not have a lot of flavor.A good lunch. I would come again if I'm the area.

Review №2

Good initial look of the restaurant, looks quite bland but when you walk in, you can smell the spices. The food was good and they catered to my taste. They made the spices mild as I requested for so not too bad. I look forward to going back and trying other things on their menu.

Review №3

So good. Never had fast casual Indian food before. I've always gone to authentic Indian restaurants and its my favorite. So I was skeptical about trying the Chipotle version of my beloved Indian cuisine. And I was blown away. I had Tikka Masala and I cleaned the bowl. Couldn't believe how tasty it was. This restaurant in particular was very clean and the smell walking in, I knew instantly "this is gonna be good". It was. Highly recommended. Try the mango lasee as well.

Review №4

Love this location and the food. Always tastes amazing and the customer service is excellent. All the employees are super friendly and welcoming.

Review №5

First time trying this place and will be back again. Food tasted good and you can select your heat level. Lots of food for one person. Did curbside and took a little longer than expected. Probably just go in to pick up next time.

Review №6

This restaurant has great food. It is always freshly made to order. I like the fact that customers can request the level of spice from mild to extra-spicey. The Basmati rice is perfectly cooked.

Review №7

Damn good food for a great price. I ordered medium because I was afraid of ordering hot. I like spice, if you can handle it I definitely say go ahead and order hot. Medium had very little kick to it. This picture is the Lamb tikka masala.

Review №8

The chicken pakoras were great, tikka masala and coconut curry were awesome. The basmati rice wasn't very good, almost seemed like it came from a pre cooked package.

Review №9

Service is excellent even when they are busy. certainly worth a return visit. the place has a good atmosphere.

Review №10

Tarka is a pleasant surprise! Most restaurants in this category are pricey but with an average of $10 a dish I was glad to try it out. I'm thankful I did. Their menu is diverse and had something to satisfy the whole family. Staff was friendly and had our food ready very quickly. The food itself was flavorful and fresh. Not oily or over-seasoned. We'll definitely go back.

Review №11

We've only ordered to go and it's been so delicious every time! The portions are awesome and consistent with the flavors. Our kiddo loves the kids meals too, we get their food whenever we are in the area! Definitely recommend!

Review №12

I give this place double thumbs up. I look forward to a return trip. It has an awesome atmosphere. This place has positive reviews for a reason.

Review №13

Just okay. Not even close to a value. To be fair the food was decent but not mind blowing. I've experienced way better quality and quantity from other similar places around the country.Like every other ethnic food joint in town it seems to be all about the novelty of experiencing another culture's cuisine at gouging rates rather than bringing something new to the table. Prices were already outrageous basically anywhere that serves basmati rice before covid but now they've raised prices even further across the board.Long story short; avoid this place until they get it together or go out of business because they are seriously taking advantage of this market.

Review №14

I have to admit I was reluctant to eat here because I want to support local mom and pop Indian restaurants here. However, we decided to give it a try. We had lunch here today for the first time. My kids ordered the chicken pakora and kabob bowls. We, the adults, ordered chicken tikka and saag paneer along with a veggie samosa and the chaat. All very good. Excellent customer service. They make the naan to order. That was delicious, piping hot from the oven. Overall, it was excellent customer service. We will definitely return.

Review №15

First time trying this little gem. Glad we did! Loved the new flavors. I am from India, and I still enjoyed every bite. Why would you want every restaurant to taste identical? Looking forward to exploring the rest of the menu!

Review №16

Loved the chicken tikka marsala. Ordered it HOT and its the perfect amount of heat for my liking! Garlic naan was great too!

Review №17

I have ordered from this restaurant almost every week since the start of the pandemic. Before trying Tarka, my exposure to Indian food was minimum, however I can honestly say I am hooked now! Highly recommend their chicken korma, coconut curry, and vindaloo. Really you can't go wrong with any menu item because everything is so darn good. Generous servings and packaged with care.

Review №18

Very appetizing. I'll return family next time. The bill was decent. Menu is like a place in San Francisco I liked.

Review №19

Excellent food! The only that I would caution about is that, if you're a cilantro hater (like me), you MUST be sure they follow your "no cilantro" request. In my experience, they bat about 50% honoring that sort of order. Other than that, you really need to try this place...thus 4 versus 5 stars. This is a casual counter service establishment.

Review №20

The food here is consistently good, I am always confident that I will get great tasting food here and fast, friendly efficient service.

Review №21

Biryani and Tikka masala were delicious! Affordable prices!

Review №22

I don't come here often, but when I do - I always have a wonderful experience here. The food and atmosphere is great.* bathrooms are very clean.* Indian music is always soothing.* area is great.* tables, booths, lounge chairs, and high chair seating.

Review №23

Skip if you are Indian. you won't like it. I should have known when I saw the Trader Joe's near by

Review №24

My parents went to tarka for dinner yesterday night (7/6/20). The girl that took their order had a hard time understanding them with the mask on to a point my dad had to pulled his mask away from his face for her to understand what he was saying. One of the employees (not sure if he was the manager or owner or just a employees working in the back) saw him pulling his mask away from his face and started yelling and swearing at him to put his mask on, he verbally Assaulted my dad to a point other customers was so shocked at what was going on. The girl who took the order that night was apologizing for the reaching of the employees/manager/owner . If it wasn't for the sweet girl that tried to take their order and that kept apologizing they would have left. This is no way to treat a customer especially if you don't know that is going on. A simple sir would you mind putting your mask back or at least something more respectful. This reaction will make sure I never go back to this place and will make sure friends and family don't either.

Review №25

The food was good. However it's not the easiest process to place an order. (The kitchen was super loud) The employees did a nice job of refilling drinks since we're not allowed to access the soda fountain. This was our 3rd time there.

Review №26

Came in for lunch, wasn't crowded at all. Order at the register and seat yourself. Cashier wasn't very welcoming and never greeted me. Food came very promptly. Ordered Tikka Masala, Saag, Vegetable Samosas, Samosa Chaat, Chicken Biryani, and Naan.Samosas were just ok. Main dishes were large portions and very flavorful. Ordered one dish as hot spice, but wasn't really hot and definitely not native hot. Overall, was pretty good, but have had more authentic Indian restaurants in the Medical Center area.

Review №27

Amazing Indian food and aesthetic. Vegan and vegetarian options. Primo naan, friendly staff, fast service HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Review №28

Love Indian food. Bring another restaurant to forum or another side of San Antonio.

Review №29

Food tasted salty and not other real flavor. Ordered medium spice and has no spice what so ever. Way smaller portions than expected for the price. Will not be going back.

Review №30

Ordered Takeout: Looked better than the pictures, even in plastic containers, and is hands down the best Indian food I've ever eaten in Texas. Amazing. Absolutely incredible.

Review №31

Once again, the food was so delicious that I ate it before remembering to take a photo. How could I know it was delicious before eating it right? Well, the smell of the kitchen, of course!I had lamb Curry, not extra spicy, just normal spicy.It. Was. Delicious.I was in San Antonio just visiting, so by the end of the meal I thought about ordering another plate to go. Sadly, we weren't leaving until much later and I didn't want it to go bad.Definitely coming back here, and my personal Man V Food challenge is eventually trying one of everything from here.Thank you, chef!

Review №32

Great food, nice portions for sharing and spice level can be adjusted for the faint at heart, like me. Loved the quick service and the restaurant was clean. Will be going again!

Review №33

Best Indian food near me, and I have a born in India friend who agrees, is like, obsessed with the food. Service is also great....and there's a rewards program!!!

Review №34

Very bad to day i had lunch food is very bad not clean no good service and they are not cleaning and all is food is not Indian.

Review №35

Visited on a thursday. i had a brother come into town and he asked me to go back here. this place has a great feel to it.

Review №36

Be careful what you ask for coz you'll get it. We asked for extra spicy and turned out to be higher than our regular spice level (mind you, I'm an Indian). It was perfectly cooked and tastes great. Will come back for sure.

Review №37

Pleeeeease build a location in San marcos, kyle, or Buda. I love your food so much.

Review №38

The food just isn't flavorful if you are someone that enjoys good Indian food.

Review №39

Quick and friendly service. The prices are well within reason for the quality.

Review №40

Hands down my go to lunch place and my favorite samosas!!!!!! They're literally perfect. If you've been here before and haven't tried them then you are truly doing yourself a disservice. We've eaten so many of the menu items and they've all been flavorful and adequately spicy. My daughter always steals my leftovers and I'm usually disappointed that she doesn't even leave me any. If you haven't gone then stop cooking and go now!

Review №41

Simply the best Indian food in town. Their rice is fragrant and delicious and their garlic topped bread is to die for. I either eat here or get takeout once a month. If you're tired of regular food, this is the place to go to.

Review №42

We ordered some food for delivery.1. Kids kabob bowl ( kiddo said rice was okay and chicken was okay)2. Korma (we rated this really good. 5/5. Loved the nutty flavor)3. Tikka masal ( we rate this one okay. 4/5)4. Naan ( good)5. Vegetable samosas ( okay)Overall pretty good Indian food.

Review №43

My girlfriend and I came here with her parents on a stormy day, looking for anywhere open! We stopped by this place and so glad we did, as it was delicious! Some real good portion sizes and variety of tasty choices, many of them vegan! Also, have to get the mango lemonade when you're here!

Review №44

Their Korma was great. I'll definitely be back.

Review №45

Certainly worth a return trip. mood here is similar to fresno's scene.

Review №46

Food doesnt hit the spot :( i tried so many dishes and it is all mediocreBest thing is the samosas

Review №47

They set my tastebuds on fire! Had the mirch masala extra hot. Loved it!

Review №48

First time, will return! Lamb was delicious!

Review №49

A joint for quick eat out. Best way is to order a To Go. They have ample seating arrangement for 70+ people. The food that they serve is Americanized Indian taste. The potion size is average and 1 dish falls a little short for 1 person. The staff is very young and needs to go hain more experience in hospitality. Overall a good place to eat.

Review №50

Modern and sleek Tarka has a very tasty selection of Indian cuisine. Likened to Americana eateries like Ma Ma Fu's there is an upbeat vibe and cool music playing to make the experience light while the food seems moderately authentic! I've been back 5 times and see myself stopping any time soon.

Review №51

Everything was fantastic. Naan bread fresh and hot. I had the braised cauliflower, very good. Curry sauce is awesome. I will come back again when back in san Antonio.

Review №52

Fusion Indian restaurant, liked the food. Paneer tikka masala, Malai kofta was good and the garlic naan was awesome.

Review №53

Large portions for a good price. Great quality.

Review №54

Delicious!! Lamb cooked perfectly and just the right amount of spice!!

Review №55

Second time going, and still so phenomenal. Awesome service, topped off with perfect Indian food. The flavors and spice of the hot Saag Paneer is beyond what I expected, and with the added chicken it is one of my favorite things I've ever had. The Badmaash Fries appetizer is also super delicious, it has the perfect savory spice and flavor with each bite. This will definitely be my go to Indian food restaurant from now on. If you love Indian food, or just wanting to try it for the first time, I definitely suggest checking this place out, you won't be disappointed.

Review №56

This place was delicious! The prices were reasonable, the portion sizes were large (I definitely had leftovers), and the food was yummy. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala and it didn't disappoint. This will definitely be a go-to for me!

Review №57

Very good, my first Indian restaurant

Review №58

Ok my son loves it. Not so spicy and taste is great. Samosas and paneer is good. Not too pricey and ambience is good.

Review №59

This place is so great! The food is delicious, came out quickly, overall convenient, and honestly the best customer service I've had in so long! Devin took our order and I was so thankful for how patient and kind he was! Sam was also very great and gave me good suggestions on what to try next time! He was so cheerful and we shared a laugh! I definitely will be coming back here again, especially with all of the vegetarian and vegan options they offer!

Review №60

Wonderful Indian restaurant, walking in the place is wonderful yummy smell and place is super clean.Staff is fast with your order and decor is subdued with comfortable seating.Has a waiting area for to go food. There is a 30.07 ban but nothing else.Easy parking behind Traders Joes.

Review №61

This place was really good. We got to go since it was right by our hotel. It was easy to find and very clean on the inside. You got alot of food that tasted really good.

Review №62

Great place for quick Indian food. The food is top notch so don't be fooled.

Review №63

I've had much better Indian food. Definitely disappointed with the food. But the place is definitely clean and well organized.

Review №64

1st time at Tarka Indian Kitchen, and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, and environment. It's been several years since I've eaten Indian Cuisine, and upon entering the restaurant my senses were delightfully entertained by the smells of curry and beautiful Indian music playing in the background. Very clean in dining area, as well as the bathrooms. The menu is very user friendly regarding various options fkr spice, vegan choices, and nut allergies too. They have a nice kids menu as well. I will definitely be returning.

Review №65

Very tasty with terrific service!

Review №66

The coconut curry and biryani are my favorites! And you have to try the mango lemonade too. So good!

Review №67

I did not grow up eating Indian food and my experience with Indian food is limited to the past 3 years or so. However, I think this place has great tasting food. Place is also very clean. I really enjoy the mango lemonade. I come here at least once a month and wish they offered a rewards program.June 2020: They now have a rewards program. Food is still pretty great. Staff is friendly.

Review №68

Great customer service, always hot food, great flavor, always make it extra spicy when I request it. Love this place for quick Indian food!!

Review №69

Love their coconut curry. Thai tea is awesome too :)

Review №70

Good food and the service was relatively quick considering the lunch crowd we experienced in the middle of the week. The marsala fries weren't that exciting so if you're thinking about ordering those I would skip; unless you really just feel like regular french fries.

Review №71

Excellent food, great service

Review №72

Great Indian food. Love that they have several vegan options to choose from on the menu.

Review №73

I was not happy with their customer service nor their food . Tea was served cold too just like their service . And they took long time to clean up after the customers left , that too the seat was still left dirty and the menu is not that extensive and yet pricy . I would not go there again

Review №74

Very loud. We moved once and still couldn't carry on a conversation. A little pricey for what it is. And the sauces are too sweet.

Review №75

Great taste of the curry and biryani..Not too spiced but was flavorful..The masala fries are a must have dish, they just cost you $1.5 for a plate full of friesTry the mango lemonade it's so refreshingThey have a good variety of lemonades..!!

Review №76

Took a Masala had a little bit of a different flavor than i am used to but it was still really good.

Review №77

Absolutely amazing food here, it has been awhile since I've had Indian food and the very first bite of their coconut curry just blew me away. The service is very quick, I swear we sat down after getting our drinks and then one by one our food started to come out. Everything was hot, fresh, and fantastic! Definitely recommend the coconut curry, we added chicken to ours. The naan was really good and went well with the samosa Chaat. I would definitely recommend this place to others.

Review №78

I did not think we would like it and we were TOTALLY WRONG. Got the Lamb Kbobs and the wife got a chicken salad and WE LIKED IT. The Mango Lemonade was amazing and worth the return trip by itself. We will be back.

Review №79

Don't get here often enough.. always love it when I do

Review №80

Tired of the buffet style Indian Cuisine in the 210. Try this place. Made to order with options of protein and level of heat. Love it!

Review №81

Loads of great vegan options! They even have a vegetarian grill

Review №82

The food was amazing and affordable! I will definitely be back!

Review №83

Had been wanting to try this place for some time. Decided to go on my birthday and was thoroughly underwhelmed. I suppose this is what you might call 'fast casual' Indian food but it actually took longer than it usually does at my favorite Indian restaurant. What's fast about that? Food was too average to make me want to come back. I was kinda hoping for some kind of unique spin but sadly there was none. Fortunately there are plenty of way better Indian restaurants in San Antonio to even bother going here. Sorry, Tarka, I really wanted you to be better.

Review №84

Great food. Would love more vegetable side dishes though.

Review №85

Been coming here on and off for years. Love the simplicity of the menu, the reasonable prices, and the quality of the food. They also have a sugar cane soda fountain which is very good.

Review №86

Never knew I loved Saag until this place. And the amount of food I get, it's like they know me and how much i love food. . . And to eat. They can't get rid of me now.

Review №87

Delicious Indian food at a good price! I always get the coconut curry, naan and samosas. The service here is also excellent. The staff members are polite and courteous. Noe takes care of us! Highly recommend this place!

Review №88

It's an indo american style. but food is really good

Review №89

I thought it looked a little too much " chain spot" but food and service were really good. Compares with any Indian spot in town.

Review №90

Absolutely delicious. Food came out quick and hot, perfectly spiced, and reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

Review №91

They don't know how biryani looks. They give some flavoured rice with boneless chicken pieces. Food is very less in quantity for the price

Review №92

Really enjoyed the food. We lived in England where Indian food is incredibly popular. And the food rates very highly. It's expensive for fast food however and the ambience is a little lacking. Get a take out.

Review №93

This place always makes me happy. I leave with a full belly and I feel good about the healthy, veggie filled options. Each dish I've tried is full of flavor af the naan is SO GOOD!

Review №94

I tried this place several months ago and have been back several times ever since. Their food is really tasty, with all sorts of options that allow you to mix and match flavors. My go-to is the coconut curry with lamb and level 2 spice. You can make any dish as hot as you want and, in true Indian fashion, there are a lot of vegetarian options for those that do not eat meat. Would highly recommend.

Review №95

Tarka looks like it should be a great Indian restaurant by its appearance. However, the taste is just ok. It lacks something that I find at other restaurants. I think they spent too much money on the decorations and the location and not enough on the ingredients. Don't get me wrong, I'll likely find myself there again at some point, but it's not my favorite.

Review №96

Overall, average at taste but NOT close to the authentic, original dishes. Contemporary Indian restaurant with quick and easy service.Mirch Masala gravy was tasty although the lamb could have been a bit softer. Biryani bowl was disappointing. Don't bother ordering that. Although Tikka Masala Paneer and Coconut curry chicken were better than the Biryani bowl, they didn't have a very authentic taste. The original dishes have a complex and nuanced spice mix and cooking method that makes those dishes special. They have simplified the curries for the sake of speed.

Review №97

So just came to this place and I've been to many Indian restaurants but this place is definitely Tex-mex style Indian restaurant. It's not that authentic but if you like mild flavor style Indian with a stone oak price than this is great but my personal opinion is that there are better authentic places around the area. Again just my opinion

Review №98

Try the Aloo Gobi... I think we're addicted!

Review №99

Absolutely amazing food 10/10 would recommend the chicken Tikka is amazing.

Review №100

There was a bug in my drink when I went here, and when I went to get a second drink instead there was some black particle floating in the drink. This all came out of the fountain drink dispenser. I went to notify one of the employees about it and they had to be told to wash their hands before cleaning the drink machine because they were seen blowing their nose before hand. Not only that the food made there is HIGHLY disappointing. I would not recommend going to Tarka's Indian Kitchen, it is not worth the time or money.
