I'm in love again! While La Fonda was at Sunset Ridge, I went often. When they moved, I went a few times, but haven't been there in a few years. We had out of town guests this weekend who wanted good Mexican food. but also a good Margarita. We walked in a bit before 5 on a Sunday evening and the service was great. Since I was driving, I had tea while the other three had Margaritas, which they pronounced very good. I ordered the Special #3 which was twice as much food as I could eat at one time. Our waitress was fantastic and the food was SO GOOD! I'm finishing my leftovers now. I ate my guacamole salad with paprika vinegarette dressing and my enchilada in the restaurant. I've always loved their guacamole salad, and that staple is unchanged. The cheese enchilada was full of gooey cheese, and covered in a fantastic, meaty chili. I brought home the beef taco which was even good cold from the fridge. I heated up my tamale, which they also cover with that great chili, and my mouth and tummy are SO HAPPY! What a great experience. I'll be back.

First time visit and it was great. They have an early happy hour, starts at 2pm. It wasn't crowded at 3pm so I was able to enjoy my food in peace. Margarita was good and beef street tacos were very good. Service was prompt and everyone was extremely nice. My server Yessica was super and very knowledgeable with the food. I recommend if you want a nice quiet pace to enjoy a meal.

Review №3

Excellent tortilla soup. Definitely will come back.

Review №4

Great food, service ok... upper area needs some updates and can you please bring us FORKS!!! and straws. Taco salad was fabulous after I finally got a fork.

Review №5

Went here for Christmas eve dinner with hubby and my mom and will never go back thanks to our waiter Louie. We were seated promptly, but were not tended to for about 20mins...ok not that big of a deal, but Louie was not very friendly and definitely made us feel as if we were bothering him. Finally ordered only to get cold tortilla soup the other two plates that had enchiladas were cold and cheese was not melted...oh and rice and beans were left off one of the dishes. Still not the end of the world...figured Louie was probably not happy to be working Christmas eve. Either way he never checked on us we never got refills on drinks and when asked to reheat food (30 mins later)he only took one plate and ignored the other plate. After almost 2hours of cold food horrible service and filt around area( dirty dishes on floor by our booth) we finally got Louie to bring our check and when he gave me my card and receipt he basically threw it at me and walked off. I would of just left and not asked for a manager, but that was the straw that broke the camels back. Never have we had such poor service in all the years we have gone to La Fonda. WE WILL NOT BE GOING BACK!

Review №6

Had a buffet dinner there last night to celebrate a wedding. Very yummy

Review №7

Food was great! Because of Covid the service is slow because of the lack of servers but that's no reason not to eat there. They are doing the best they can.

Review №8

Very good food, great bang for your buck and good service. Nothing that blows my mind, but definitely walk away full and happy :)

Review №9

Great food, everyone was wearing masks. Tall seats.

Review №10

This was the worst service I have EVER seen. Food was pretty good but we could not overcome the service.

Review №11

I'm just happy they are open! Try the Rick's Special. And tell Bill hi. You might see Jimmy (the owner) in there. He likes it too.

Review №12

My friends and I went to get some food to go but we didn't get to order because the waitress told us that they dont have what we want to eat she said one taco there cost 5 dollar like saying we can't afford to pay the plate or wherever they have in the menu...we are from Houston TX. And we work in construction she probably didn't like us because or clothes..

Review №13

Great beef Fajitas. Friendly staff. Highly recommended

Review №14

Made the mistake thinking this was the famous La Fonda - the better one is located downtown. Chips were hard and stale, enchiladas were mediocre. Took awhile to get out food. Will not be coming back.

Review №15

It was not busy, only two other tables seated when we arrived. The food was hot, and the waiter was prompt with the service. Overall good experience.

Review №16

The food was tasty and they are making a real effort to keep everyone safe, distance between tables, individual servings. The kitchen was rather slow during our visit. I might go again if I'm in the area, but it wouldn't be my first choice in SA.

Review №17

It's a solid local option. Unfortunately every once in a while they get a little crazy with the salt.

Review №18

Food was good but not as good as it used to be.the cheese enchiladas were missing something. Staff were distracted. Atmosphere was great. Still a fun place but the food has changed over the last few years.Margarita was delicious.

Review №19

My wife really likes the healthy selectons;" one is even low carb with good Tex-mex flavors.

Review №20

Food was outstanding and the service too... Thanks Jake. I loved the beef fajitas and the tortilla soup was tasty too. Large portions so leftovers the next day too. Great value!

Review №21

Food was good service not so good!

Review №22

La Fonda on Crownhill is the authentic throw back to the original La Fonda family owned restaurants. I truly appreciate the preservation of the family recipes since I have been a customer of the original La Fonda owned restaurants. It is so amazing to step inside and feast on the family favorites enchiladas, chalupas con puestas, fajitas, homemade flour and corn tortillas or course the pralines. Yum Yum Dont for get the great traditional drinks like hand squeezed margaritas. Hole!

Review №23

Food was fantastic and wait staff was awesome!

Review №24

Fast service with drinks, chips, and salsa immediately upon being seated. Great quality of meat. We had the chicken and beef fajitas. The corn tortillas are wonderful and made at the restaurant. Friendly staff. Bill (general manager) takes pride in his work. Highly recommend!

Review №25

My server was excellent but chicken strips were not cooked all the way through seeing raw meat through off the meal, cheese dip and salsa were not good either

Review №26

It was not to my liking... my taco was wrapped in foil and my tortilla was soggy

Review №27

Classic place, good selection and awesome location!

Review №28

Amazing experience - had reservation for 7 for bday. Everything was great - the food, the service, the HH margaritas..

Review №29

The queso is great.

Review №30

Food & service. Excellent!

Review №31

I'll give my group's server Ruby five stars for excellent service and a wonderful attitude! The food was amazing. There's wheelchair access and parking. However, my group was pushed out very fast by another server who had a terrible attitude with most of us and didn't have a name tag either. This server was very pushy about my group leaving. Not good customer service. I'm not going back.

Review №32

Large portions, hand made tortillas, friendly staff....will definitely return

Review №33

Loved their taco salad and cilantro lime dressing. Took my mother and she enjoyed it as well. Keep up the great job.

Review №34

Best Mexican food around !!!

Review №35

It's ok, not amazing and not horrible. Decent atmosphere but can get loud when busy. Service is slow. We enjoy going there periodically for a change of pace.

Review №36

La Fonda is your typical Alamo Heights blue haired old ladies kind of place to eat. It will do in a pinch.

Review №37

The service was great. Atmosphere was nice, my sons and I stopped in for dessert and we had the sopapillas with cinnamon ice cream. It was so delicious. We are definitely going back to try more things on the menu. Everything look and sounded so good.

Review №38

Happy faces, great margaritas and a wide variety o great Mexican food

Review №39

Had a biz trip and hoteled by the airport. After a long meeting day I craved Mexican food. Didn't want to drive and I found La Fonda on Google maps. I ordered their Fonda special 1 and loved it. I have a dear Mexican friend who homecooks tamales - I'm lucky to get them. Fonda's tamales rivaled Cristina's. Not skimpy on the filling and not dry. The salsa was fresh and a bit on the spicy side. Guac salad was GREAT. And the margarita wasn't one of those big super sweet drinks you see at the chain places. I got their house Marg and the tequila and lime balance was perfect. No sticky sweet stuff. However, as another review said, "warning, they're small but potent.". Local charm with families and birthday parties going on. But not overly noisy. I saw some quiet tables on the patio. Great choice!

Review №40

Excellent! Love the food!

Review №41

Best fajitas in town!

Review №42

My family and I came here for the first time having mind it may be a hit or miss. Let me begin with the service. Their staff was friendly the wait time to get our food was average wait maybe 30 mins. My thoughts on the food was indeed nothing special. I wouldn't consider this place Mexican but perhaps Tex-mex. I ordered the enchilada trio and out of the three my fave was the sour cream enchilada. The cheese enchilada took me back to my elementary school days. Gravy and cheese enchilada. We also tried the fideo, I liked the fideo better. Large bowl was a good portion to share between my two young children. But over all would I return or recommend this place , probably not.

Review №43

Good Mexican food. I had shrimp enchiladas, which were tasty. Free chips and salsa for the table, of course. Quality and friendly service. Happily split the check for a large party of coworkers. Clean restrooms. Festive decor. Large restaurant. Conveniently located around 410 and 281, near the airport and hotels, and not as far as the original La Fonda if you are from this side of town. Plenty of parking. Safe neighborhood.

Review №44

Good food and excellent service from Victoria. Tacos all carbon are great!

Review №45

Great Tex Mex ! Excellent food at a fair price. They use only the freshest ingredients and top quality ingredients! I've visited this SA landmark for 35+ years!

Review №46

Best, pretty, sweetest bartenders and foods not bad either.

Review №47

Great place, good food, they need a little work on knowing where to seat people with small children

Review №48

The street tacos with some tomatillo sauce on them are amazing. But honestly I would go just for the salsa. The roasted salsa is truly some of the best salsa I've had. Can't wait to go back.

Review №49

Fajita taco was good and tender. The rice and beans were very good. The guacamole was fresh, naturally tasty. I don't like guacamole that has too much lemon. This did not.

Review №50

The minute we got there we were greeted and made to feel welcomed. Our waitress, Michelle was so accommodating and had such a great personality. The service was the best and the manager on duty checked on us several times. The margaritas were great and the food was amazing. The restaurant was very clean. I look forward to going back.

Review №51

Great atmosphere. Fabulous servers. Nice place for a party.

Review №52

Enjoyed the grilled Salmon. Great choices and service.

Review №53

Food here is always great but service is unpredictable. Sometimes you get a wait or or waitress that is outstanding and sometimes you get that one guy who is just there for a paycheck and only goes above and beyond for large groups that guarantee he will get an amazing tip. Wish I knew his name as I have had him three times but I cannot remember it to save my life. This restaurant is considered somewhat upscale but is always kid and family friendly and won't put families in the undesirable part of the restaurant unlike others. I have eaten here for over 15yrs and will continue coming here. Love the environment and the food just wish I could say more for the service

Review №54

Probably my most favorite place to have Mexican food. Love their cheese enchiladas and tamales. Literally 50 years ago we would go to the one on Fredericksburg Road, but it's closed. I remember the wonderful aroma of fresh corn tortillas when I was a little girl, walking into the restaurant.

Review №55

Went in a sat on the patio and it took a while for our server to come to the table. So long that the manage had to come out to reassure us that he was on the way. When the server finally got there is brought us chips, no salsa and took our drink orders. Shortly after we received our drinks and he said that he would come back to get our food order. We waited for 30 minutes and he never came back to the table. We asked the manager for our check and she apologized but only offered to cover the queso to make up for us having to wait so long only to not get to eat.

Review №56

Great margaritas, which are hard to find. Real lime juice!

Review №57

The food and service are great and my food was well seasoned. We came during a busy lunch service and had no trouble getting a table and the food came out as quickly as you would expect. My only complaint is the tortillas. I tried both the flour and corn and had the same problem with both, they are just way too thick and dense. This makes them very filling, I could barely get through 2 of my 3 street tacos. If they were a little lighter I would give this place 5 stars.

Review №58

Nice comfortable atmosphere and good food, friendly service at a reasonable price.

Review №59

Wow, this place has gone down hill since I've moved back to Texas. Ordered the street tacos. Meat was luke warm at best. Taco shells were like trying to eat leather. Never have I had to chew so much on a taco before. Kids meals that my daughters ordered were OK. Typical Mexican dishes that you can find anywhere for a lot cheaper though. 2 stars only because the wait staff was really good. Will not come back though.

Review №60

Grew up coming here as a kid and the food is still the same. The staff was awesome and management was even better, Becca, came out to see how things were coming along.

Review №61

Good food, very friendly staff.

Review №62

Extensive menu. Excellent service. Separate party/meeting room. Delicious food. Can't go wrong eating here.

Review №63

The wait staff was on top of their game with such a large group. We had probably 20-25 people in our group. The food was delicious and the salsa and chips were great.

Review №64

Love the food love the staff

Review №65

Celebrated my sisters birthday it was great wish the room was bigger. Food and service was top notch .

Review №66

Great experience. Was here for a birthday celebration in the private room and the food was perfect. Guacamole was good, queso was good, beer was cold. No complaints.

Review №67

Good food. Fast service, though not exactly friendly. Ok prices.

Review №68

Their refried beans are on point! The enchilada fiesta is amazing. Salsa is usually delicious but you can tell that sometimes the tomatoes aren't as ripe as they should be.

Review №69

The atmosphere is wonderful but the service was slow. I called in my order, was told 15 minutes, arrived IN 15 minutes, waited another 6 minutes to be recognized...after getting a waitress's attention, then waited ANOTHER 15 minutes to get my order. The place smelled WONDERFUL though and the General Manager, Bill, was very pleasant.

Review №70

Good Mexican food. Had the shrimp tacos and much to my delight, they were actually cooked well. Their house margarita was plenty strong and I thought service was excellent and very attentive. Definitely family friendly and easy to get to, just off the freeway.

Review №71

The waitress was fast, attentive and friendly. Food was absolutely, delicious.

Review №72

One of the very best restaurants in San Antonio. Serving Mexican Cuisine. Great happy hour specials. You have to try one of the house margaritas. Oh, and I can't forget the street tacos. This restaurant easily rates 5 stars. More if there more.

Review №73

They make a simple effective margarita. Rick's Special queso is great. Menu items are consistent. Service is from medium good to very good.

Review №74

Our recent trip to San Antonio had Us at a hotel near this restaurant and I was so glad after eating here. The beef fajitas, chicken tortilla soup, and homemade corn and flour tortillas were amazing. Worth the time to visit.

Review №75

Great tasting chicken soup on a cold night is such a comfort!

Review №76

I had a Chile Relleno with beef. It was tasty, but needed more spice to make it hot. Our server brought me, two Serrano peppers which helped. The rice and beans were good and the ambiance pleasing. Our server was attentive and pleasant. My friend and I, had an enjoyable lunch.Give them a try, I hope you too will be pleased

Review №77

Very good food. Great service.

Review №78

The restaurant is a San Antonio staple for a reason...the food is really good.

Review №79

Not worth a trip. I went here for a corporate party. The food came out promptly, but it was very basic Tex-Mex. There are so many great Tex-Mex restaurants in town that mediocre just does not warrant a trip. Some may say that maybe it was a one-off situation, but I went to their other location (that has since closed) and the food was equally mediocre. Find another Tex-Mex place. You don't have to drive far to find one in San Antonio.

Review №80

Great party there. Well designed and great server!! Guests were quite impressed!

Review №81

Fred the security is an old fashioned hoot! Made my experience so much better

Review №82

Amazing restaurant and amazing service. We were served appetizer to entree in maybe 15 minutes, if even that. Lighting fast service. Louie was great. I would definitely come again. The Carne Guisada Plate was delicious

Review №83

Delicious food, friendly employees. Not overly noisy.

Review №84

Was our 1st time at this restaurant. Great service and food was great. Extremely clean and great decor.

Review №85

Great dining for singles or the entire family!

Review №86

The food was great, and the server was great, but due to over crowding, the serving was slow, but otherwise ok.

Review №87

Sunday afternoon lunch with my husband and pup - they allowed us to sit on the outside shaded porch with Bullet. Lunch was good, small quest (always a must) fish tacos and tortilla soup! Nice little hidden jewel in Alamo Heights.

Review №88

The food was really good.Service, mediocre.Bathroom needed attention.

Review №89

Again great food great service we always get treated very well. Thanks Debra for all your hard work.

Review №90

Service was medioacre, food is sub par prices are whack. $3 for a praline?not going back

Review №91

Really disappointed in the food & service. We came after seeing all of the high rating.s. Service was subpar at best, we didn't receive menus until we asked for them. Our waiter didn't say more than 2 words to us & never asked how the food was. Fish tacos were good, but the cheeses enchiladas & chicken tacos lacked any short of flavor. Extremely disappointed.

Review №92

Great service and great food, perfect for our Sunday Afternoon. ️️

Review №93

Very elegant environment and food is delish

Review №94

First time there and it was a positive experience. Good food, good service.

Review №95

I must say that I really enjoy this particular La Fonda, the food is always good, I usually get the margarita on the rocks and it never disappoints. Its a hearty margarita, not one that is watered down. This is probably one of my favorite Mexican food places in this area, and there are a lot. I love the Ricks special queso, it is so so good. My children, who really do not like enchiladas, eat the enchiladas here! There is usually a wait because it is a favorite in this area, however, it is large enough that it turns over quickly.

Review №96

Basic cheap TexMex fare. Nothing horrible, just a mix mash of canned food.

Review №97

Pretty decent food - La Fonda has been around for many years. Good service.

Review №98

We had a large party on the patio. The service was very attentive and quick. I had the fish tacos which were tasty, but could have had a little more slaw. They were very accommodating considering we had lots of therapy animals in the group. We had a really nice time. Thank you!

Review №99

It was my first time in San Antonio and the first restaurant I went to there. It was awesome. The food, and the workers. Great experience

Review №100

Always good street tacos an0d fideo
